San Francisco cyclist suffers hit-and-run injuries

Part of the innate danger of driving is the enormous danger that all cars pose to everyone who is vulnerable to the possibility of being struck by several tons of force. Unfortunately, the danger presented by cars and other vehicles has become so normalized in our day-to-day living that it takes a tragedy or near-tragedy to remind us that we are surrounded by the equivalent of small elephants that could simply trample us if something goes wrong.

Just such an experience was had by a San Francisco cyclist who was the victim of a nasty hit-and-run accident recently. The victim was fortunate on several counts — not only that there were people around to help her to medical care, and that the accident itself occurred close by to a hospital.

The cyclist suffered some severe head trauma, but the injuries did not prove to be fatal. It is a stark reminder that terrible things can come out of nowhere, and that in the midst of tragedy, some people prefer to think only of themselves and flee from responsibility — possibly at the expense of a victim’s life. It is exceedingly fortunate that the cyclist was found and helped to medical attention by individuals who were willing to get involved, otherwise the driver’s selfish act may cost the cyclist her life. The driver who is responsible has yet to be found.

All too often, when things take an unexpected turn, it can bring out the worst in people. It would be wonderful to believe that when it really counts, people will do the right thing, but that is sadly not true. If you have been injured in a hit-and-run, or any other kind of car accident, you deserve to have your experience evaluated by a qualified attorney who can help you explore your options for justice while keeping your rights protected.
