2 killed, others injured in hit-and-run car accident

A hit-and-run accident temporarily closed off part of a California highway and sent police on a search for the responsible driver. Two individuals were killed in the car accident, while at least three others suffered injuries of varying degrees. Police eventually located the driver believed to be responsible for the multi-vehicle accident and arrested her on several criminal charges.

At approximately 1:43 in the morning, a vehicle carrying four women from the same family was rear ended. The 31-year-old driver who struck the other vehicle allegedly stopped for a brief moment before fleeing the scene. Another vehicle then struck the vehicle that was left disabled from the first wreck. The driver responsible for the second wreck stayed and cooperated with police.

A 62-year-old woman and 2-year-old child who were in the struck vehicle were both killed. The driver of that car and a 5-year-old passenger both suffered major injuries and had to be transported to area hospitals in order to receive treatment. One other woman suffered what were apparently minor injuries when the driver of her vehicle caused the secondary accident.

California families who have been unfairly impacted by the actions of negligent drivers likely understand the long-lasting impact of related damages. Pain and suffering can stretch for weeks or even years after a car accident, and there is perhaps nothing that can truly replace the life of a lost loved one. Still, victims and their families are not without possible options for recourse, and personal injury and wrongful death claims can be effective at achieving necessary compensation for physical, emotional and financial damages.
