The Cartwright name has been a San Francisco Institution for nearly 50 years. Robert E. Cartwright, Sr., who began the law practice in the early 1950's quickly become one of the most successful and highly respected trial lawyers in the United States. (See Biography of Robert E. While the Cartwright Firm underwent several changes over the decades and the names of various partners were added or taken away, the Cartwright name has been constant.

In the early years, Robert E. Cartwright, Sr. partnered with Suren Saroyan, and other well known attorneys. At the time of his death, the firm was called Cartwright, Slobodin, Bokelman, Borowsky, Wartnick, Moore & Harris, Inc. Since then, the name has been shortened to the Cartwright Law Firm, Inc.

Although there have been many changes in our firm, one thing has remained continuous: high quality legal representation from our family to yours for the past fifty years.

We have a history for engaging in cutting edge litigation. We have been pioneers in almost every conceivable area of litigation and Robert E. Cartwright, Sr. was in fact known for being one of the "fathers" of modern product liability law. The first book written on product liability in California was co-authored by Robert E. Cartwright, Sr., followed by subsequent books. Robert E. Cartwright, Sr. appeared in over 100 appellate level cases which advanced the frontiers of tort law in California, and became a model for the rest of the nation.

Robert E. Cartwright, Jr. was literally raised as a trial lawyer. From lessons at the dinner table, working in the law firm beginning in 1970 as a high school student, and spending over a year in trial with Robert E. Cartwright, Sr. before even becoming a lawyer, Robert E. Cartwright, Jr. became one of the best prepared trial lawyers before he even passed the bar in 1982. After obtaining his license, Robert E. Cartwright, Jr., like his father, has become one of the most successful and respected trial lawyers in the United States.
